RAW & Refined
Creative Workshops for Wedding Photographers
Where intention meets instinct.
Creative workshops designed for wedding photographers who want to refine their vision without losing their edge.
Somewhere along the way, over the past years of photographing weddings and traveling, we both had this quiet feeling that something wasn’t quite right anymore.
Not with photography itself — but with how it’s often approached, how it’s taught, and how much of it started to feel the same.
Too controlled, too polished, too focused on perfection… and somehow missing the depth that made us fall in love with it in the first place.
RAW & Refined grew out of that feeling.
Not because we wanted to create another workshop, but because we wanted to create a space that feels a little more honest, a little more real — and a lot closer to how we actually work.
What matters to us
We don’t believe in waiting for perfect conditions, and to be honest, we don’t even enjoy them that much.
Some of the images we’re most proud of happened in moments where things didn’t go as planned — when the wind was too strong, when the rain didn’t stop, or when the light kept changing in ways you couldn’t fully control.
That’s usually the point where something shifts, where you stop trying to manage everything and start responding to what’s actually there.
During the workshops, we fully lean into that.
We work with whatever nature gives us, and instead of avoiding difficult conditions, we use them — and we show you exactly how we do that in real time.
How we approach shooting in the rain without losing the moment.
How we use wind, movement and imperfect light to create something that feels alive.
How we stay flexible and creative when things don’t go according to plan.
Because they rarely do — and that’s where it gets interesting.
RAW & Refined
For us, RAW & Refined isn’t a fixed concept or a style that you can simply copy.
It’s more a way of approaching your work, something that develops over time as you gain experience and start trusting your own eye more.
The raw side is instinct, emotion, movement — the moments that just happen when you let go a little.
The refined side comes from intention, from understanding light, composition and subtle direction in a way that doesn’t feel forced.
We’ve both spent time leaning too far into one or the other, and it took a while to realise that the strongest work usually lives somewhere in between.
That’s the space we’re interested in exploring together — not by giving you rules, but by helping you see things differently and develop a stronger sense of what feels right to you.
Current & Upcoming Chapters
The Refined Chapter - Swiss mountains
October 20–21, 2026
This chapter carries a slightly calmer energy and is more about slowing things down, giving yourself the time to really notice the small details that can completely change the way an image feels.
We’ll spend most of our time outdoors — in the mountains and around the lakes of the Oberengadin — working in real conditions instead of controlled environments, which naturally shifts the way you approach your work.
October in the Engadin has a very special atmosphere.
It’s what they call Indian Summer, with golden larch trees, soft light and this quiet, almost still feeling in the air that makes everything slow down a little.
At the same time, it can change within hours, and that contrast is something we intentionally embrace — because alongside those warm tones and calm moments, you might suddenly find yourself in cold air, with wind picking up or even the first snow falling.
Instead of trying to control any of it, we work with what’s there, and you’ll start to see how small adjustments in the way you read light, guide your couples and position yourself can completely shift the outcome.
Sandra lived in St. Moritz for over ten years, and this region is something she knows far beyond just the obvious locations — it’s about understanding how the light moves through the valleys, how the lakes change throughout the day, and which places feel right depending on the conditions.
It’s not about creating something that looks perfect or overly styled, but about understanding what actually makes an image feel intentional, elevated and still very real at the same time.
The RAW Chapter — Bornholm
APRIL xxxx 2027
This chapter carries a very different energy — a bit wilder, more open, and shaped much more by what’s happening around us than by anything we plan in advance.
We’ll spend most of our time outside, moving along the coastline, working with whatever the island gives us in that moment, which means that no two situations will ever feel the same.
Bornholm has this raw, almost untouched feeling to it, and the weather plays a huge part in that — it can be calm and quiet one minute, and then suddenly shift into strong winds, rough waves or heavy clouds rolling in from the sea.
Instead of resisting that, we lean into it.
You’ll learn how to stay present in those situations, how to let go of control without losing direction, and how to use movement, emotion and changing conditions to create images that feel alive rather than staged.
Justine lives on Bornholm, and her connection to the island goes far beyond knowing beautiful spots — she understands how the light moves, how the weather shifts and where to go depending on the mood of the day, which is something you can’t plan, only experience.
This chapter is less about refining and more about trusting — your instincts, your reactions, and your ability to create something meaningful even when things feel a little unpredictable.

Who We Are
We’ve both been working in the wedding industry for many years now, in different places, under all kinds of conditions, and with a wide range of couples and expectations.
Over time, we’ve learned that the images that truly stay with you are rarely the ones that were perfectly planned — they’re the ones that felt real in that exact moment.
Justine lives on Bornholm, and her connection to that place goes far beyond simply knowing locations, as she understands how it feels in different seasons, shifting weather, and constantly changing light.
She is a true creative allrounder who feels most at home in unpredictable situations, where instinct quietly takes over and moments are allowed to unfold naturally. Instead of following strict concepts or shooting lists, she trusts her intuition completely, creating something meaningful from whatever is there.
Her work is deeply connected to people, driven by the belief that real magic happens through trust, interaction and openness — it’s this exchange that shapes her images.
With an international background, she moves easily between cultures, languages and people, connecting with warmth, curiosity and genuine care, and making others feel truly seen, not just photographed.
At the same time, there is something very nostalgic in the way she sees the world. For her, photography is not just about creating beautiful images, but about holding on to something — preserving moments in a way that allows them to be felt again, even years later.
Sandra is based in Switzerland and spent over ten years living in the Oberengadin, which shaped a deep understanding of landscape, light and atmosphere in a way that only comes with time. Having lived in different countries — from Germany to France to Australia — she carries a natural openness towards cultures and people, which flows into the way she sees and works.
She has a big heart, loves to laugh, and enjoys being around people, while at the same time there is a curious, slightly restless side to her that is drawn to movement, new places and everything that feels alive and a little unpredictable.
That mix of warmth and instinct, of connection and quiet adventure, shapes the way she approaches both people and photography — never overly controlled, but always intentional.
What connects us is not just what we do, but how we see — the balance between letting things happen and knowing when to step in, between trusting the moment and shaping it just enough.
RAW & Refined didn’t come from a business idea, but grew over time through conversations, shared experiences, and the feeling that something was missing. We wanted to create a space that feels different — more honest, more open, and less about performance, and more about actually experiencing what you create.
You don’t need to become someone else to create better work, and you don’t need more poses, more content, or more pressure to get there.
What actually changes things is learning how to see — more honestly, more intuitively, and with more trust in what you feel.
RAW & Refined is a space for exactly that, a space where you’re allowed to slow down, to question things, to try, to fail, and to find your way back to what feels true to you.
Because in the end, it’s not about creating more images, but about creating work that stays — for you, and for the people you photograph.
Who this is for
This is for photographers who already have a foundation, but feel like they want to move forward and not just repeat what they’ve been doing.
For those who are looking for new inspiration, who want to reconnect with their creativity and maybe even challenge the way they’ve been seeing things so far.
For photographers who enjoy being around others who think and feel in a similar way, where conversations go a bit deeper and ideas naturally start to evolve.
And also for those moments where you realise that sometimes, a change of environment and the right people around you can shift more than months of working alone.
Who this is not for
At the same time, we want to be very clear about what this is not.
If you’re at the very beginning and still figuring out how your camera works, or if you’re looking for a workshop that teaches you all the technical basics step by step, this probably won’t be the right fit.
We’re not focusing on settings, and we’re not creating a space where you copy poses or workflows.
You should already feel comfortable with your camera and your process — from there, we go deeper.
“You don’t need to shoot more. You need to see deeper.”
